There’s nowhere better to take in Vancouver’s legendary summers than sunny, beautiful Kitsilano.

As anyone who has spent some time in Vancouver can attest to, there really isn’t anything quite like a West Coast summer. West Five is located in the heart of the action in Kitsilano, an established, lively neighbourhood more commonly referred to by locals as “Kits”. For summer lovers, Kits has a little bit of everything: diverse restaurants and patios, first-class beaches, outdoor activities galore and of course, Vancouver’s world famous nightly sunsets. With the official first day of summer kicking off on June 21st, here are a few of our favourite ways to spend our summer days in West Five’s lively neighbourhood surroundings.

KITS BEACH

Recently anointed one of the top ten beaches in the world by National Geographic, Kits Beach is a long stretch of sandy coastline in the very heart of Kitsilano. Watch sailboats and stand-up paddleboarders navigate the waves, join in on a spirited beach volleyball match or better yet, just spread out your towel and soak in the rays. For swimming enthusiasts, check out Kits Pool, a world-class salt-water pool over 137 meters in length situated directly on the beach.

GRANVILLE ISLAND

Located a short walk away from West Five, Granville Island is home to Vancouver’s best public market. From premium local food shopping, top-notch restaurants to artisans and galleries, there truly is something for everyone at Granville Island. If you feel like having an adventure, hop on an AquaBus – with multiple stops around False Creek, who knows where you might end up!

KHATSALANO STREET PARTY

Situated on West 4th (Kitsilano’s main street and hub), Khatsalano Street Party is Vancouver’s biggest free music and arts festival, happening annually each mid-July. On July 11th, check out trendy local bands and artists as well as a variety of food options, bustling patios, special activities and licensed beer gardens.

LOCAL PUBLIC EATERY

Any bonafide Kits resident knows that if you want to see and be seen, there’s nothing quite like “The Local”. Situated directly across from Kits Beach, Local Public Eatery is teeming with beach goers, Sunday Funday enthusiasts and just about everything in between. This spot is especially busy during NFL and NHL games – just make sure you head down early to grab a seat.
